Cooking on Wood: Tortilla Wraps
People often avoid cooking anything bread-like because they think it's hard to achieve and time-consuming. However, if you're looking for a quick and easy meal cooked on the fire pit, why not consider these easy-to-make tortilla wraps. They take virtually no time to prepare, and less time to cook, so why not check them out? Step One:
Mix the flour, oil, and water in a bowl and knead till combined. Tip onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is firm and not sticky.
Step Two
Once fully combined, you should be left with a dough ball with a firm and smooth consistency as pictured below. Let this rest for 15 minutes.
Step Three
In the meantime, prepare the fire; if using our Grill and Chill logs along with our KindleFlamer, this should take no time at all. More on how to light your fire here. Swing the BBQ rack directly over the fire so it warms up ready for cooking your wraps. You can cook your wraps directly on the BBQ rack or using a wood-fire suitable frying pan or skillet. A frying pan will let you flip your wraps like pancakes if feeling adventurous – and best of all, there is no ceiling for it to get stuck too if it all goes a bit wrong!
Step Four
After you have let the dough rest for 15 minutes, you should cut it up into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece of dough into a ball and roll them out into large flat circles. Depending on personal preference, you can have these wraps as thin or as thick as you'd like, but they will swell up when cooking so we like them quite thin. When rolled out thin they will also cook quicker.
Step Five
Once rolled out, place an uncooked wrap onto the skillet or directly onto the BBQ rack, depending on preference and equipment available. They cook incredibly quickly so they will need flipping over to cook on the other side in no time. Repeat this with each of the wraps.
Step Six
Once cooked, fill them with fillings of your choice, and voila, the perfect tortilla wrap meal cooked on your very own firepit.
