Large Birch & Oak Crate
The Large Mixed Hardwood Crate is our most popular size, offering an excellent balance of volume, value, and practicality. Neatly hand-stacked with a selection of premium kiln-dried hardwoods, most commonly oak, ash, and birch, this crate delivers versatile and reliable firewood performance. The natural variation of species provides the best of both worlds: some logs light quickly to get your fire going, while denser woods burn slowly and steadily to provide long-lasting, intense heat. All logs are carefully dried to a moisture content of below 20%, ensuring they burn cleanly and efficiently with minimal smoke and emissions. This makes the crate an ideal choice for those who heat their home regularly or simply enjoy cosy evenings by the fire.
STORAGE
Under cover, in a dry space with good airflow, the logs can also remain in the crate without compromising quality.

FAQs
What log size and crate size do Kiln Dried Mixed Hardwood Crates offer?
Choose 25cm or 35cm logs and Medium (1.42m³), Large (2.29m³) or Extra Large (3.08m³) crates of mixed hardwood, typically a combination of oak, birch and a little ash. This gives a spread of burn characteristics, from birch's quick lighting (15-17 MJ/kg) through ash (19 MJ/kg) to oak's longer burn (18-20 MJ/kg), in one crate, useful if you don't want to commit to a single species for a whole delivery.
Why choose a mixed hardwood crate over a single species option?
A mixed crate gives you variety without needing to buy multiple single-species crates, which suits customers who like having both quick-lighting logs for getting a fire started and denser logs for banking it later in the evening. If you prefer consistency and predictability from every log you burn, a single-species crate such as our Kiln Dried Ash Crate may suit you better instead of a mix.
What moisture content are the logs in this mixed crate?
All species within this mixed crate are kiln dried below 20% moisture and Ready to Burn certified, ensuring a clean, efficient burn regardless of which log you pick from the crate. This is the same standard applied across our single-species crates, so mixing species doesn't reduce the drying quality of any individual log within the delivery. This is verified before dispatch, so the burn quality stays consistent from one order to the next. Read more about the scheme in our Ready to Burn guide.
How should I store a mixed hardwood crate?
Keep the crate undercover, since its open, slatted sides provide airflow but not full protection from driving rain on their own in an exposed spot. A garage, car port, or cover will keep the logs dry and holding their moisture spec through the winter months, protecting the drying work already done before delivery. Read more in our guide to storing kiln dried logs.
What's the delivery lead time for a mixed hardwood crate?
This crate is delivered on a pallet by our national carrier, typically within 3-5 working days, and qualifies for free UK mainland delivery as a bulk order. Ensure clear, level access for the delivery vehicle when booking your slot, particularly if access to your property is limited by a narrow lane or steep driveway, and you'll receive tracking details ahead of the delivery slot so you know roughly when to expect it.
