Great Value Kiln Dried Hardwood Crate – Medium

The Medium Great Value Crate is a practical choice for those who light fires occasionally or want to top up their log store without overspending. Containing kiln dried hardwood with a low moisture content, it lights easily and burns with a clean, bright flame. Although it burns slightly faster than our premium hardwood, it’s perfect for shorter fires, quick bursts of warmth, or use alongside longer-burning logs. Neatly stacked for convenient storage, this crate offers reliable firewood with no mess.

Kerbside Delivery Only: Our carriers are contracted to provide kerbside delivery.

Please ensure your property has good delivery access with a smooth, level surface for unloading. Please note, if you have ordered an XL crate, this will now be delivered on a large vehicle with a tail lift, even if it was previously delivered with a small vehicle.

Refer to our Terms & Conditions for details, as charges may apply if delivery is not possible. If you anticipate any issues, let us know in advance to help avoid additional charges.

Free Mainland UK Delivery: While the minimum requirement is kerbside delivery, our carriers will do their best to deliver as close to your preferred location as possible.

FAQs

What size crate should I choose, and why is this range cheaper?

Available in Medium (1.42m³) or Large (2.29m³), this crate is 100% silver birch, which has a calorific value of around 15-17 MJ/kg, lower than oak or ash and is naturally cheaper to buy as a species. It burns roughly 20-25% faster than denser hardwoods, so you'll get through it a little sooner, but it lights very easily and burns well, making it a good-value option for regular, no-fuss burning throughout the working week. Read more in our Ultimate Guide to Birch Firewood.

How does this compare with the Kiln Dried Ash Crate?

Both are Ready to Burn certified and kiln dried below 20% moisture, but ash (around 19 MJ/kg) burns a little longer per log than birch (15-17 MJ/kg) and typically costs more to buy. Choose this Birch Crate if price and quick, easy lighting matter most to you; choose the Ash Crate instead if you'd rather refuel less often, even at a slightly higher price per crate delivered.

Can this crate double as a log store once it's delivered?

Yes, the crate's open, slatted sides allow airflow around the logs, so keeping it undercover, in a garage, under a car port, or beneath a cover, lets it double as a ready-made log store rather than needing separate storage bought after delivery. This is a practical saving if you don't already own a dedicated log store.

Is the Kiln Dried Birch Crate covered by the Money-Back Guarantee?

Yes, kiln dried logs are one of the four product types explicitly named in our Money Back Guarantee, so if this crate doesn't meet the stated moisture specification, you're entitled to a full refund on claims made within around 3 months of delivery. This covers the wood's quality rather than issues caused by our third-party delivery carrier, and applies to this budget-friendly range just as it does to our Premium ash crates.

What's the delivery lead time for the Kiln Dried Birch Crates?

This crate is delivered on a pallet by our national carrier, typically within 3-5 working days, and qualifies for free UK mainland delivery as a bulk order. As with our other crates, make sure there's clear, level access for the delivery vehicle when it arrives, especially if your property has a gravel or sloped driveway, since the crate is heavy and awkward to reposition once unloaded.
