The local company blazing their way, quite literally, to become the latest recipient of the Hereford Times/Baker Tilly Trailblazer Award for environmental awareness is Certainly Wood.

A business founded little more than two years ago, Certainly Wood is leading the way in the supply of kiln dried logs and kindling from sustainable British hardwoods, offering customers a traditional carbon neutral alternative to oil, coal and gas.

A company which refuses to stand still, astute marketing, growing environmental awareness and the deepening energy crisis have seen demand soar.

Marketing Director Nic Snell explained: “More and more people are looking to reduce their oil or gas usage so are buying wood burning stoves for secondary heating and these require high quality wood. Kiln dried wood prevents blackening of the stove glass and provides maximum heat output and therefore cost effective heating. Our wood is harvested from sustainable, well managed forests in Herefordshire and surrounding counties. It is then cut and split before being barn dried for several months before being ‘finished off’ in the unique kiln facility.

Certainly Wood now supplies over 300 retail outlets across the UK and plans to expand the product range and hopefully increase the existing kiln facility.

Robin Mason, Trailblazer Award judge and partner at the Hereford office of leading mid-tier accountancy and business advisory firm Baker Tilly, is not surprised by Certainly Wood’s success.
He said: “Here we have a local company with a strong understanding of its marketplace and an excellent grasp of business strategy. Its products are both innovative and effective, all of which make Certainly Wood a very worthy Trailblazer winner.

“We wish them every luck for the future and look forward to hearing how the business progresses.”
The Hereford Times/Baker Tilly Trailblazer Award is presented quarterly and recognises local business innovation and good practice.
